Legends of Brass, formed in 2008, is a Melbourne community music making icon,
comprised of 35 brass and percussion players most of whom are retired. The band
boasts around 1,500 years of combined musical experience with players coming
from all walks of life - ex professionals from orchestras, military bands or teaching
backgrounds. Many are amateur bands men and women who have spent a lifetime
playing in community bands, often at the highest level of brass playing in this
country. This includes top A Grade bands and the Melbourne Staff Band of the
Salvation Army (a world class ensemble). Many players are still active in other
community bands which perform in State and National championships.
Legends of Brass is an active community band performing numerous concerts
throughout the year with the emphasis on having fun playing great music to our
enthusiastic audiences. The modern brass band is an incredibly versatile and
entertaining unit and Legends of Brass repertoire covers everything - movie themes,
stage shows, big band, jazz, classical, opera, rock or pop. The band is right at home
in all mediums.
As well as regular community performances the band will feature at The Edge
Auditorium, Federation Square for Seniors Week and our largest showcase for the
year will be the band's annual "Last Night of the Proms" to a capacity crowd at
Melbourne's famous Ivanhoe Centre.
This concert mirrors the original "Last Night of the Proms" at the Albert Hall and
features the best of British with full audience participation, flag waving with choir,
pipes and drums.
Legends of Brass is a firm believer in the power of music to improve quality of life
and even longevity, especially the social interaction in rehearsals and performing
together sharing our lifelong love of music with the wider community.
We welcome new members who wish to play brass band music in a fun, stress free
environment.
We rehearse every second Wednesday afternoon at:
